Dr. Paolo Ruffino
Paolo is an academic and artist. He is currently researching video game culture, with a particular emphasis on gamification, the use of games for health and self-improvement, and independent strategies of video game development. He investigates the narratives, produced by consumers, publishers, journalists and commentators, around the relation between gamers and games: the conflicts with the mainstream industry, claims of freedom and autonomy, and forms of affect developed with regards to one’s own quantified-self. With the group IOCOSE he has been working since 2006 in the field of new media arts, investigating ‘the after-failure moment of the teleological narratives of technological and cultural development’.
